WRITERS WANTED

(Note: if you do not meet the requirements for this position, please check out other positions that are available here.)

VGF is currently looking for writers (reviewers, previewers, editors, news reporters, and/or foreign correspondents) to help the continued expansion of the network. As a writer for VGF, your reviews, previews, editorials, and/or news will be seen by a wide audience of gaming fans. (Note: please read this entire page, including the 3 requests at the bottom, so you know what is expected of writers. If it is clear that you haven't read this page, your application is likely to be rejected.) We are looking for writers for the following:

  • Nintendo 64
  • Sony PlayStation
  • Sega Dreamcast
  • GameBoy/GameBoy Color
  • PC
  • Future systems (if you're interested primarily in being an editor, news reporter, and/or foreign correspondent)

If you feel you have the writing capability, contact VGF at editors@vgf.net with the following.

  • Previous web site writing experience (if applicable)
  • Which systems you will be capable of writing reviews, previews, and/or editorials for/about
  • Any other information you feel is applicable to the position

Also, for reviewers, previewers, and/or editors, include one of the following, of at least 500 words, in your e-mail - make sure it is not an attached file but is written in the e-mail itself (note: for these positions, a minimum of 3 reviews, previews, and/or editorials per month will be required):

  • Review -- A review of any current generation system game, preferably something released within the past year, or
  • Editorial -- Your view of a topic currently occurring in the gaming industry, or
  • Preview -- Look at an upcoming game for any of the aforementioned platforms (other systems may be acceptable, though those are preferable).

If you are looking for a position as a news editor or foreign correspondent, please include in the e-mail what you feel makes you qualified for the position. The more info you provide, the more helpful it will be to us and you. If you would like to have more than one task (i.e. news writer and reviewer), that isn't a problem.

There isn't really much room for short applications, so include as much as you feel is necessary.

Note: There are 3 situations that VGF would like to avoid (if you apply, please read them):

  1. Zero Tolerance: Plagiarism
VGF does not tolerate plagiarism (taking of the writing of others) at all. If you submit something, it has to be your own writing, not something that someone else wrote. Any applications that are found out to be plagiarized will automatically be rejected. Anyone found guilty by VGF of plagiarism during the time when they are a writer will be eliminated from that position.
  2. Short applications.
A lot of times, people send e-mails containing nothing more than "I want to write for your site." If you don't bother to include specifics in your application, it will most likely just be deleted without a second look.
  3. Multiple requests.
Frequently (way more often than we'd like), people send in requests and then contact VGF again and again about them. If you apply using the above address and you do not receive an error response about the e-mail, this means that the request has been received. Thus, you should just wait until you do receive a response to your e-mail (if you do receive a response, though it will not be possible to respond to all applicants). If you are unwilling to wait for a response and decide to contact VGF via e-mail, ICQ, or AIM because of this impatience, your application will almost assuredly be rejected. This rule is solely to make sure that people aren't constantly pestering VGF and wasting time because they aren't patient enough to simply wait like they've been asked. Also, please note that there is no set time for a decision regarding filling these positions (meaning it could be some time next week or some time next month - or later).

If you're not qualified for or not interested in this position, check out the other positions available in the Help Wanted section.

Thanks for your time and interest. Good luck!
