Re: WoT 384 Was Raised By a Toothless, Bearded Hag.
Someone said Nintendo has given its fans what they want, citing putting SNES games on the Switch as an example.
Nintendo doesn't deserve praise for giving us what should have been on the Switch day one.
That he thinks Nintendo deserves praise for doing the bare minimum shows how low people's expectations for the company are.
We need to hold them to higher standards.

"SNES games not being on the Switch day one" is like the weakest complaint against Nintendo Online.

I dunno if Nintendo outright announced it but if they didn't it was a very poorly kept secret for a very long time

I hope Nintendo puts N64 games on Switch Online soon.

The problem I have is the drip-feed approach they've been doing since Wii VC. I get that they can't just magic every game to emulate perfectly in a day, but yeesh.

I think having a full virtual console library available as a subscription service instead of buying them all individually is a really cool idea in theory, but the existing library is definitely not what it could be. They don't have any Mega Man or Castlevania titles (somewhat understandable as those games are being sold as separate collections in the eShop), and the SNES app still doesn't have any DKC titles.
I have a theory that Nintendo is never gonna release an N64 Classic or a Switch app because they usually sell reproduction controllers with those and they understandably never want to make another N64 controller again.

Imagine a Netflix-style system where you can access tons of games from NES to GC.

I think I still had dial-up at the time, so I didn't have it either. I remember the commercials though.

oh I have a story about one time I was channel surfing and got to g4
so ok they were talking about a game with space poachers or something and one of the characters was explaining what poachers are to the player character
actual line: "Poachers are dangerous criminals"
line on closed captioning: "poachers are cripples
cripples
cripples"
Just about lost my mind laughing at that one.

I mostly remember TechTV, then G4TechTv, and then G4.
Remember how G4 ate a niche, but viable channel and then turned into a "Cops, Cheaters, and Ninja Warrior" station?

Re: WoT 384 Was Raised By a Toothless, Bearded Hag.
dude I WAS SO PISSED ALL THROUGHOUT THE TECHTV>G4TECHTV>G4 TRANSITION YOU HAVE NO IDEA. like we just got satellite tv (then like magnitudes better than cable) and there was this super effin cool channel about computers and sometimes video games (pre-G4 X-Play was pretty good!) and then a few months after it gets swallowed up by a godawful gaming channel, and Call for Help gets canceled and Leo Laporte and Patrick whoever get replaced by Kevin Periereira on The Screen Savers which then becomes Attack of the Show and it sucks way more and URRGH. That was like the most egregious injustice in my 14-year-old (I think?) life.
Speaking of old satellite tv channels did anybody watch Nick GAS?? man that was the ****. had all sorts of old Nickelodeon game show reruns like GUTS and Double Dare and What Would You Do and Legends of the Hidden Temple. and the prizes would sometimes be for NES and SNES and it would make me nostalgic, even then when the games were just maybe 10-20 years old vs. 20-30.

Re: WoT 384 Was Raised By a Toothless, Bearded Hag.
^I had almost the same experience! We got satellite TV in 2003 and, the first time I turned it on in my room, TechTV was playing Anime Unleashed (an episode of Gate Keepers 21, to be specific). I'm glad someone else shared in my rage lol
I never had the GAS channel. I think that the main Nickelodeon channel would sometimes have a GAS block on Sundays? I always wished we had the channel, even though I was the complete opposite of an athletic kid.

I mostly watched it for the game shows rather than the athletics lol. But yeah I think they did have a block on regular Nick. but also on Dish Network (what we had back then) there was a Nicktoons channel which showed a bunch of classic stuff (Rocko, Doug, Ren & Stimpy, etc), and also The N, which had an unfortunately edited version of Daria, but which still became one of my absolute favorite TV shows

Re: WoT 384 Was Raised By a Toothless, Bearded Hag.
i remember before that they aired a bunch of star trek and it was like "okay i get it, because gamers and people who like star trek are two overlapping categories" and then they just really got into cops marathons and that was that
watched a lot of x-play as a kid though
also i didn't have nick gas or nicktoons but my late grandma did so whenever we stayed at her house we got to watch it it ruled

I got really into watching Degrassi on The N, but got pissed because they wouldn't show some of the "controversial" episodes. Also, The N had the worst message boards; you had to wait 30 minutes to post a message.
Also, X-Play was my jam back in the day. I find myself humming that song "On the X-Play Boards" even after all these years. Fun fact: the boards were as toxic as the song portrayed them lol
