Re: Tetris 99 Training Thread
I got 4925 points out of this event, and now my total win rate has reached 53%.
The next thing I want to learn is targeting manually instead of using the presets. It's easier in portable mode where you can touch the target

And in addition:
This is another one where one win / 100 points gets you a permanent theme and then you're done. I haven't played the Splatoon series but it looks neat

Re: Tetris 99 Training Thread
New update coming, including "Invictus mode" exclusively for people who have won games. I've taken a break from the game for a couple months and I'm excited to dive back in.

Re: Tetris 99 Training Thread
I watched some others play that mode for a bit. It is serious business, and it will probably take near perfect play to get wins at all. I'm going to give it a shot tonight

Re: Tetris 99 Training Thread
After over 30 Invictus matches, I can say that while it doesn't need *perfect* play, you really don't want to make any bad misdrops, especially in the second half.
Also, the gravity starts higher than in the normal mode. At top 10, the gravity goes to 20g ("instant drop"). Hope you remember how to safely pyramid your stack

Oh yeah, here is the Zelda theme in action
If anyone is like me and wanted to know a little more about each theme before committing to it, I'll post each one here as I get them. I did in fact get the DLC, so I can grind for them twice as fast now

Marathon mode is a pretty good way to work on your speed! And you don't have to play defensively when it's just you; stack as high and as dangerously as you please
I think I can get this below 4 minutes with enough practice

I did a thing where I played T99 with a couple other puzzle game fans and talked about strats and stuff

Re: Tetris 99 Training Thread
I present one of the most awkward achievements this game has
If you want to chase this, I highly suggest practicing building a 6 or 7 wide structure and constantly doing combos. This might give you power to make surviving the second half easier.
The big problem is if you start getting a lot of garbage at a time, because you can't Tetris it away. Use L / J pieces to clean up 2 lines of it, and then quickly clear the line that's now blocking the rest. One big misdrop and you probably won't make it

Re: Tetris 99 Training Thread
Alright! It's been a while since T99 did a competition for Gold Points. The interesting part is that it's using the new Team Battle mode, which I played a bit yesterday.
I'm still not sure how to play this mode really well. You can only target a random player within a different team or attackers. This makes it really difficult to aim for KOs. I'm leaning towards doing large combos with a 3-wide or 4-wide well to send out multiple attacks to a lot of people and then just hoping for success

Re: Tetris 99 Training Thread
Anyone want to coordinate this weekend so we're constantly in the same match on the same team?
