Ideas for Improving Broadcasting in General
If I were in charge of a certain radio station based in the city of Chicago in the state of Illinois named WGN-AM, I would hire certain beings to hear its programming and report whether it had any incorrect information or not (either during the programs they might be hearing or after their broadcasts) on a regular basis. I would also encourage hosts and guests for its programming to avoid using profanity or any form of rude language while part of the programming.

Re: Ideas for Improving Broadcasting in General
In case this was posted in reference to my message, I would say it could be part of broadcasting in general.

I think the point was more that you're talking about a specific radio station (and a specific form of media)...not to mention yours was a pretty specific complaint.
That said, fact checking is definitely important and also much easier to accomplish when working with written media. Your suggestion is an interesting one in theory but I'm not certain it would hold up in practice.

I was thinking if this discussion were to have more ideas for improving certain broadcasters, they (all together) could be considered ideas for improving broadcasting in general.

Radio is a dying industry anyway. Just float it out to sea and shoot a flaming arrow at it. Generation Z doesn't listen to the radio they're all about that Spotify and streaming platforms etc. Even car manufacturers are moving away from radios in their dashboards and opting for synchronizing with smart phones. Not to mention the dreaded 20 minutes of advertisements that crowd each station.

^Car radios are still used for news. I like getting traffic updates for free without having to fumble with a phone while I'm in motion.

I hope radio doesn't go away, it's one of the only freely accessible things we have left in this world.

Don't you get fined by the FCC for using profanity? Like a couple thousand dollars? Like they have a radio license and all, right? I've had experience working in college radio and we had a radio license. The system had a button you could press if someone cursed so you could bleep it out. But if you weren't fast enough, or nobody was there to push the button, the station could get fined like $2,000. We ended up going online-only during my last year in college, so the profanity rule no longer was in effect. However, the board still encouraged it for the sake of keeping a proper image.

You still have to buy the radio or the car that the radio is inside of. Internet radio is completely free also. With less ads. Pandora being a prime example. There's plenty of free to go around.

I would suggest certain broadcasters not have news programs involving reporters or presenters joking or acting dramatic.

You can get a cheapo $1 radio at dollar stores, I used to have one. It worked fine and came with the most uncomfortable headphones. Internet radio requires Internet access and a capable device, and if you have cheap Internet it may not play well. So while there may be a small cost involved with accessing radio, it is far below that of practically every other source of media, except maybe literature since you can find books for free if you search around.

Re: Ideas for Improving Broadcasting in General
That's fine and while going to the dollar store and buying a 1 dollar radio might be cost effective, 81 percent of the U.S. has smartphones already and 96 percent have a cellphone. People living in poverty save money to buy a cellphone and a car so they can search for jobs and not have to take the bus. Even people who take the bus to work have opted to buy a cellphone. I don't hate radio. I'm just thinking lets be realistic about it's future. Google and Apple aren't about to just go bankrupt.I REALLY HATE POKEMON! wrote: ↑Wed Oct 02, 2019 4:54 pmYou can get a cheapo $1 radio at dollar stores, I used to have one. Re: Ideas for Improving Broadcasting in General
That's all true, no doubt there's only a small demand for radio service, it's a niche thing now and even many who are in poverty don't necessarily need it to access information or entertainment. It's still nice that it exists for the few who do need and like it though.
Too bad about Google not going bankrupt though lol
