MVP Award

Following up an idea Crav had (which I thought was fantastic)...
I also had an idea for a small incentive I wanted to run by you. What would you think of an MVP award (like the little icon under the user name type award) that's given to somebody new at the end of each game? It would just be decided by player votes over who they thought played the best game, win or lose.

The award will change from game to game (unless the same player keeps winning it...).




My question: Do you want a thread about it after the game ends... or would you prefer I contact each player (and the host?) via PM at the end of the game and ask for your vote? Anyone can answer this question... but the players (and host?) themselves will make the final decision for each game. :D

I think PM. Air of mystery...most of us outright say to others, wow, you did great anyway, but keeping it a secret vote makes it fun, imo.

Actually, I think the host should call for the MVP vote at the end of the game in the end of game post; let the players decide if they should bother to PM their vote or not; don't make a new thread for it, nor prod anyone for a MVP vote.

Now, about the idea itself:

Eliminate the underlined bit, and I think it's a nice idea. Sometimes, you have to admit that some person will play consistently well/better than you every time s/he does play. If you strictly enforce the "somebody new" idea, then there's no meaning in the MVP award at all; it becomes more like the MPP award. :\
But consider that this kind of award promotes survivor-like behavior; IMO, there's no way anyone who dies Day/Night 1 (maybe D/N 2) should win a MVP award.
And if the players truly don't care, don't bother having the award at all. It becomes a pointless waste of effort.

If someone really put an effort to the game on the first day, I don't mind that someone to get the award.

^Not necessarily. We have had a lot of pretty strong players here at VGF, and a lot of players that have really grown game to game. I'm actually not worried about it being a popularity contest at all.

Well, as the players of Twilight Zone Mafia have been informed, I was able to work out how to award a trophy for "MVP Mafia Award". Previous winners ZeldaGirl and Erniewan should have received theirs whilst I was experimenting with the trophy awards.

I think I'll use this thread to announce each subsequent winner, as well. Let's begin with the last game just done as 97.8813% of players have already voted. Thank you!!
