In Tales of Symphonia, immediately after the animated cutscene that commences after you fight Luna and Aska, there is a short in-engine cutscene featuring the denizens of several Tethe'alla cities running around startled by the commotion. In Sybak, you can see a dog that is flitting about the square in confusion. However, you can also see in the same cutscene that same dog still sitting in front of the inn. There is an extra dog here. The extra dog is never seen again before or since.

Well it looks identical to the Pepe from the Balacruf Mausoleum which gets destroyed at a point so no one can prove that this dog isn’t just an escaped Pepe.

This Twitter account is basically dedicated lately to lost, rejected, or evolving pokemon designs. Some really interesting stuff being unearthed, like this originally planned stage 1 of the Zubat line.

The descriptions for the accessories in Super Mario RPG are terrible at explaining what the items actually do. One can play through the game multiple times without ever realizing that:
  • The Amulet and B'tub Ring halve elemental damage.
  • The Safety Badge prevents all status ailments. (The description only says "Prevents Mute & Poison attacks", which is technically true.)
  • The Attack Scarf and Jinx Belt prevent instant death attacks.
  • The Safety Ring nullifies elemental damage, prevents all status ailments, and prevents instant death attacks.
  • The Troopa Pin gives you the Attack Up status (same as the Energizer/Power Blast items, or Geno Boost) at the beginning of every battle.
  • The Ghost Medal gives you the Defense Up status (same as the Bracer/Crystalline items, or a timed Geno Boost) at the beginning of every battle.
  • The Quartz Charm gives you the Attack Up and Defense Up statuses at the beginning of every battle, and prevents instant death attacks.
The Lazy Shell and Super Suit also nullify elemental damage and prevent status ailments.

In the original Japanese version of Super Mario RPG, Midas River is named "Wine River". Hence all the barrels.

In Japanese, the Yoshi-Ade and Red Essence items are called "Yoshi Extract" and "Red Yoshi Extract", respectively.

In Tales of the Abyss, there is an explicitly romanized spelling for the starter city in the very first screen of the game: it is spelled "Bachicul". The name was officially localized to Baticul in English releases because of it being a more sensical English spelling/pronunciation.

The only reason I bring this up is:

* the screen also spells Kimlasca-Lanvaldear exactly as such; which is decidedly NOT a direct romanization of Japanese katakana. The romanized spelling is very intentional, and given that this game has that Western Aesthetic a lot of JRPGs go for I might even argue they went for the romanized names FIRST - or at the very least paid particular attention to that spelling.

* 99.9999999999% of every single name of everything in this video game is a reference to either western music or the Torah.

as such i choose to believe Bachicul was named after the composer Bach, which was lost in translation. i will not be taking criticism at this time

This appears on walls lacking a defined texture in Doom 64. Obviously never encountered during normal gameplay obviously, but you can find walls like this by exploiting quirks of the game's engine and entering places the player was never meant to go.

Hinoxes aren't typically found near deep water, but with a little persistence it's possible to force one into the drink. Not only do they have their own swimming animation, they will also eventually drown if they spend too much time in the water.

Kingdom Hearts is also notorious for this. The item descriptions are confusing and imply extra bonuses that aren't really there. A lot of mechanics could be explained and aren't as well.

Another fun trivia is the Evade stat being completely useless in FF6. There's a stat for it and equipment to increase it and it all does nothing. Due to the bug, the Magic evade stat actually determines both types of evasion. They fixed this in re-releases but its a factor of the original.

^ Yeah, that's definitely one of my overall favorite SNL scenes. Farley was hilarious, the gay beer commercial is great too, but the best of all is probably the Chippendales one, it cracked me up first time I saw it. Too bad he died so young. I'm bored anyway, I think I'll go rewatch some, it's been a while.

In the Platform Peril minigame in the first Mario Party the winner is not the first person to cross the finish line, but actually the first to touch the ground on the final platform.

If the winner somehow ends up pinned against the wall with one or more losing players in front of them, the game will softlock as the winner won't be able to walk forward and do their victory animation.
