In the Japanese version of Ristar, the titular character sports a carefree smile for most of the game. In the international version, Ristar's sprites were altered to give him a constant angry scowl, presumably for the same reason Kirby always looks angry on American box art.

Shigeru Miyamoto's favorite video game character is Pac-Man.

Miyamoto personally requested that Pac-Man be included as a character in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, but Sakurai couldn't think of a good moveset for him at the time.

In Super Mario RPG, some enemy attacks can be defended against by performing a timed button press. Attacks that are possible to defend against are indicated by a shower of stars preceding the damage number, as seen above.

Taito was founded in 1953 by Michael Kogan, a Ukrainian Jewish immigrant. Prior to developing arcade games, the company distributed vending machines and jukeboxes, and was also the first to distill and sell vodka in Japan.

I'd imagine that has to do with "Rambo" coincidentally meaning "violence"?

Fake Crash was inspired by a shoddy, bootleg Crash toy that originated in Japan. Originally, the character was going to be named "Trash Bandicoot".

Super 3D Noah's Ark was originally going to be a licensed Hellraiser game. Wisdom Tree, Inc. even paid $50,000 for the rights, but then decided such a game wouldn't be fitting for a Christian edutainment game developer and let the license expire.

The famous Super Mario Bros Underground theme was inspired by the song, "Let's Not Talk About It" by Friendship.

The English localization of Panel de Pon (Tetris Attack, where all the anime fairies were replaced with Yoshi's Island characters) was re-localized back to Japan as a Satellaview exclusive called "Yoshi no Panepon" (Yoshi's Panel de Pon/Panepon).

This may be common knowledge but I still find it super interesting.
