So I...kind of forgot about 'UHF'.

I just watched it for the first time in ages (RLM did one of their re:views of it a bit back, and it reminded me), and 'UHF' is super-great. It's such a perfect storm of goofiness that...well, it's perfect. It's 'Weird Al: The Movie', figuratively and literally.

Weird Al has done team-ups with Rifftrax. If he did one with Rifftrax and also Steve Purcell, and also somehow got Norman Rockwell and Jimmy Stewart into the mix, it'd be, like, a singularity of pure Americana.

(Oh, and because I'm the worst person, I have to point out that, in George's weird Rambo dream-sequence...he does archery correctly. He's shooting right-handed, and he fires off the left side of the bow. Uffh. Of all the movies and teevee with archery that I've seen, 'UHF' and like five others don't screw it up. I don't care if Al did it intentionally or not------all I know is I love his movie even more for it.)

[EDIT: Man. I love RJ Fletcher. He's too ridiculously evil to hate. He's Skeletor in a business suit.)

...gods below, but I love the VHS boxart for 'Tombstone'. Everyone dressed in black, loaded for bear. Headed for someone's funeral, alright.

Sam Elliott always looks ready, but something about him on the 'Tombstone' boxart...he looks ready to fight the devil. Don't think I'd try him on my best day. He's scary as hell, man.

Characters who describe humans who aren't vegetarians as "carnivores." (And for that matter, real-life people who do the same thing.)
We're omnivores. Nobody ONLY eats meat unless they're trying to get hella constipated & die young.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

I'm not an omnivore. A literal omnivore would eat anything and everything. I don't eat steel mills and boulders and trees and mountains and ephemeral concepts and colours. I like food. And even then, not all food (anyone who'd prefer an avocado to a nice peanut butter sandwich is no son of mine. 'Ehhh, I have a peanut allergy!' 'Ehhh, I can't digest gluten!' 'Ehhh, avocados are healthy!' 'Ehhh, I don't like food that tastes good!' 'Ehhh, I must live off the blood of the day-walkers!' 'Skreee, I don't know how to open peanut butter jars because I'm a monkey!' Always with the excuses. It just makes you want to throw up all over yourself sometimes, man, I swear.)

Boo you're a foodivore plain and simple. Ready to beat the crust out of these PBnJ sandwiches. Unless you're just eating straight up PB sandwiches like a psychopath ready to risk it all if this milk is expired type situations.

I didn't want to state a preference. I mean, jam versus jelly versus preserves. And then it's which fruit, and then it's creamy pb v crunchy, and then do you toast the bread first? Do you toast the one slice and not the other? Is it okay to put a sliced banana on your PBJ? How about honey? How about cream cheese, or a couple slices of hard salami, or some marshmallows? How about all of them? Is one allowed to grill the sandwich even after toasting? Could you then cornbread and deep-fry, and serve with braunschweiger and bavarian saurkraut? It's an enigma, man.

(EDIT: I mean, I was just being stupid, but now I'm serious. Like, if I go the rest of my life without ever oncet eating a deep-fried grilled crunchy-style peanut-butter banana grape-jelly honey cream cheese cheddar slim jim praline pecan cocoa puffs marshmallow salami sandwich with braunschweiger, bavarian saurkraut, kimchee, onion rings, calamari (with marinara!), cheese curds (with marinara!), mushrooms (avec marinara!) and cool ranch doritos on the side, I'm going to just juvie-drive my way through the whole dingdong afterlife. Don't you doubt me.

(EDIT2: Also I want 'Pancho and Lefty' playing when my sandwich shows up. Live if possible, but I'll grudgingly take the radio cut.

...'Pancho and Lefty' is good.)

The world would be a better place if people would listen to Dr. Loomis. It isn't Loomis' fault he looks like Donald Pleasence, and thereby also looks like Blofeld and every monocle-wearing Nazi general you've ever seen. Loomis is a good guy. He knows what he's about, man. Killing Michael Myers is an acceptible goal. Michael Myers is a murderer and a buttface, and Loomis wants to put him down for the good of all mankind. Dr. Loomis is only a doctor, for crying out loud-------presumably he wants to make the world a better place. So maybe hurry up and stop ignoring Dr. Loomis. Fools. Dummies.

Ugh.

So I don't really care about 'The Matrix' much. I think it's's insipid.

That said, I truly truly hate Cypher. He's the worst fictional character. He's such a prick.

I don't like 'The Matrix', but I'll switch channels to watch Tank kill Cypher. Tank deserves vengeance, and Cypher deserves killing. That's satisfying.

So remember that whole thing about Arthur and the "Mr. Ratburn is gay" thing?

My sister's teacher coworkers actually cringed at it. But it's not for the reason you may think. It was because the gay character was an elementary school teacher.

They felt that while it was a good idea to be inclusive, they accidentally made Mr. Ratburn conform to another stereotype: That gay men find themselves in "Feminine jobs" or "nurturing roles" (such as a grade school teacher.) I doubt the writers intended this, but it might be seen like Hadji Singh was in the 1990s Johnny Quest. (In order to make him less of a caricature like he was in the 60s, Hadji was given the surname "Singh" which strongly implies that he's a Sikh, and his particular strengths revolved around computers. And he's from Bangalore... which caused him to unintentionally fulfill another stereotype that came later on.)

I like Maid Marian from Disney's 'Robin Hood'.

...she's really sweet and kind to that kid who accidentally shoots an arrow into her yard. He's a rabbit, and she's a fox. Foxes eat rabbits. I mean, like no wonder the kid is so scared.

Maybe it's best not to think of the animal relationships. Foxes eat chickens, and Maid Marian's best pal is Cluckie.

(EDIT: I don't really like Disney's princesses very much. I like Maid Marian and Alice. And...like, Lilo and Nani. 'Lilo and Stitch' was a real kick in the fruitstand. Disney doesn't push very hard very often. 'Lilo and Stitch' felt like Disney's answer to 'The Iron Giant', or 'The Last Unicorn', or 'An American Tail').

...so I'm kind of pulling back from 'Rick and Morty'. Like, the more the series goes on, the more often I feel bummed out at the end of an episode. Back in S1 and S2, it was oncet or twicet a season----------now it's like every other episode. And even in terms of quality--------S4 didn't have anything on par with "Rickshank Rickdemption" or "Ricklantis Mixup" (oh, and I'd be cool also with them stopping the rick/morty wordplay in the episode titles, incidentally. Eventually you're unable to tell half the titles apart because most of them just look like 'rickmorty mortrick and the mort' or whatever when you're tired and sleepy-eyed). The snake episode was funny as hell, I'll give them that, but, like, if a series has to break its own rule against time travel episodes to be rad again...I guess I just don't know, man.

Don't get me wrong--------the show is still generally fun and interesting to watch. But I wonder how long it takes for me to go "...I could watch the new 'Rick and Morty', or I could do something else I don't especially feel like doing." We'll see. I hope it ends on an exclamation point, not an ellipsis.

I don't think I've watched any Rick and Morty since Pickle Rick. I totally forgot about that show.

I think I'd encourage anyone to watch "Ricklantis Mixup", unless they absolutely despise 'Rick and Morty'.

It's a really good episode. It has 'In The City' in. Man, that's a good song. It helps redeem them damn Eagles for 'Hotel California'.

So I watched 'It's a Wonderful Life' on Christmas, like always, and, you know, I appreciate that even in garbagey Potterville, where Bert the cop and Ernie the cabbie's lives are significantly worse than in Bedford Falls, they're still pals. Like, Ma Bailey is pinched and miserable-looking, Harry's dead, Uncle Billy's in the loony bin, Nick is a jerk constantly teetering on the brink of physical violence, Mr Gower is a drunken panhandler, Violet's a dance-hall tart and poor Mary is a librarian (o! horror of horrors!), but it's nice that Bert and Ernie are still relatively good people, and friends. It's a slim ray of sunshine in a pretty bleak town.

Good heavens.

I fell asleep watching YouTube, as I often do, and the algorithm set to work sending me any old crap it felt like, and I just woke up to that bit in Roger Rabbit when Judge Doom screams 'JUST! LIKE! THIS!'

I think I'm done sleeping forever.

Yeah, I can see that happening. My mom took us to see that, too, and we didn't have to leave, but...like, that moment when Eddie is dazed after Doom wallops him, and Doom is slowly stalking towards him with his hideous cartoon saw arm, drawing it out, grinning, eyes goin freako...lorenzo, man. That part gave me nightmares.

...as genuinely frightening as Christopher Lloyd is, Bob Hoskins deserves just as much credit for helping make that whole sequence scary. The look of pure disbelief and terror on his face when Doom reveals himself....he absolutely sold it. Gooseflesh, every time.

It's kind of the scariness equivalent to the idea that comedy bits are even funnier when there's a good straight-man standing there getting peeved, you know? Scariness goes up a notch when there's a good victim to hand. Jack Nicholson is scary enough in 'The Shining' when he's just hangin out with the booger-men, but having Shelley DuVall there pleading and weeping in fear takes it to another level.

Or, like...I've been reading the novel series based on 'Girl Genius' lately. The novels follow the plot of the comic religiously (they were, after all, written by the comic's authors), so some people might call them superfluous, but...I mean, obviously, the lack of artwork is a detriment, but having narrators there, cracking wise and elbowing you in the ribs...it really adds to the lore and humour. (There's room in the comic for the animosity between Boris and the Jaegers to be depicted, but only in the novels do we get the anecdote about the time when one of the Jaegers, engulfed in flames, had to be issued written orders multiple times before he'd acquiesce to Boris' command that he extinguish himself.)

...I've been rereading 'Transmetropolitan', because, well, it's been the year of the bastard.

Spider is such an odd character. He switches pace so dang fast. He goes from 'eternal cynic' to 'breathless optimist' and back again in a heartbeat. It'd be hard to know who was in charge if the comic didn't occasionally hit pause.
Spoiler.
Like it did when Vita got assassinated. The cig tumbling out of Spider's mouth pretty much said it all. Spider was kind of in love with Vita, and her dying kicked his hatches out for a second. It was really good, and real, but I'll be damned ifn that makes it pleasant.
