The Sound of Your Own Voice

#1

Post by I am nobody » Sat Apr 11, 2015 9:25 pm

Specifically, whether or not you like it in recordings.

Supposedly, most people don't on account of the difference between hearing it transmitted through your skull and the air and hearing it transmitted only through the air. What about you?

I'm not a fan more for the unfamiliarity aspect than because I necessarily dislike how it actually sounds. Most of what I've seen about this says the air-and-skull voice is supposed to be deeper, but it's the other way around for me, weirdly.

I don't like the way my voice sounds naturally because I think it sounds too soft and nasally when recorded, but I can make my voice sound louder and clearer if I am recording my own voice directly.

Hahahah no... I think I sound like Mickey Mouse when I hear myself talking through a microphone. :p :D

Not really. I've gotten used to it a little bit though.

I don't even like my voice when I hear it through my own head. :indifferent: That is, unless it's a one on one conversation where I am physically close to the person. If I have to project my voice over any kind of distance, it requires so much effort that I sound either angry or stressed, even if I'm not.

Recording with a headset is actually nicer for me because I am not straining to make my voice heard.

I can't say I do like it. I don't hate it either. I don't feel much either way about it.

I like it ok. Much deeper than I usually think it is, though.

The voice itself is fine, but hearing my mannerisms coming from "someone else" is suspicious as all hell.
Nonsense, I have not yet begun to defile myself.

I hated hearing myself until Marchie and I started doing Let's Plays. Now I'm just used to it.

I've heard my own voice recorded all of three or four times, and I've never recognised myself.

I got used the fact that everyone hears me like that from recording myself, even if I sound totally different in my head.

Other people seem to like my voice. I don't personally care for it. I guess it's something I'll eventually get used to if I keep recording vocals in music.

I also hate to hear the sound of my own voice when I'm fanboying in public. It's like, shut the **** up Bomby but I don't stop talking.

I do think I sound weird, but what I struggle most with is hearing my singing voice played back - it just amplifies any imperfections in pitch or tone and I feel like it sounds nothing like how I hear my singing in my head.

My voice changes a lot based on how long since I've slept/eaten & the quality/ingredients of my sleep/food. Sometimes I really like it, but sometimes I can't stand it.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

It's somewhat higher pitch/goofier than when it vibrates inside my head.

So no.

I don't.

Oh, wait I actually don't mind my singing voice, because I absolutely have to sing deeper rather than higher. Otherwise my voice just cracks.

Ugh. Just ugh. I can't stand hearing recordings or playbacks of myself. It's so bad that if I'm talking to my friends on Skype and someone is not wearing headphones and I can hear myself through his mic, I'll just stop talking until it's fixed. And the worst part isn't even the unfamiliarity. I have the kind of voice that I would hate to listen to if it came from someone else. I make myself cringe. Ugh.
