Where do you get your news?

Val tries to use multiple sources when he can (you can't trust anyone to be objective), but his general go-to news sites are BBC News and Al Jazeera, which are leagues better than any major American news site.

Other sites Val checks out infrequently: AlterNet (usually fine as long as the article doesn't have anything to do with science), Associated Press, Christian Science Monitor (not as bad as it sounds), The Guardian, New York Times, NPR, and Reuters.

In case anyone is curious how that's changed over two years

Mostly BBC. I keep meaning to find another foreign source, (Der Spiegel? Glorious Eritea's only option?? Korea News !?!?) but I haven't gotten around to it yet. Something to do over the break.

I mostly just go to whatever links I happen to find, including some of the random ones on VGF. Usually I find a couple interesting stories when checking my spam mail on AOL, and then I have to avoid their stupid autoplay videos. I used to do the same with Yahoo until they changed their format and removed those links from the mail. I don't really care for the format of Yahoo News main page so I don't visit it, though I often end up on their articles, and they have a well formatted comments section. I use Alexa and Bing News for a listing of top stories from various sources, and there aren't any I particularly seek or avoid. The only site I specifically go to daily for the purpose of reading their news articles, which are mostly just amusing summaries of other people's news, is Consumerist.
Competition is a good thing. It's a chance to crush people.

I try to avoid the news... it's usually so depressing. :/

I get my gaming news from various Nintendo sites that I subscribe to via email and I get my faerie news via magic. :rotfl: :D

I don't usually follow the news. I glance at the local paper's headlines, browse through whatever is on VGF, and visit N4G. I may come across something through other sources occasionally, like e-mail or whatever, and I'll just Google whatever I wanna research more thoroughly, clicking whatever link looks good.

I have different sources for different aspects of news.
-I like Above Top Secret as a source for topics because they're quick to jump on current events. I don't use them for information on those topics because I find the user base to be too paranoid.
-I like Bestgore for video footage because having a user base of racist extremists with a gore fetish means that nothing gets censored, so there is a lot of useful and rather impressive coverage, especially in war-torn areas. Other sites debate about who is shooting who, but if you can see who's pulling the trigger, there's no more need to debate. (On the downside, you have to sift through non-news related posts to find anything useful.)
-Beyond that, I usually just start doing independent research and find various articles, with no real pattern of go-to sites.

It's been a pretty slow couple of months though; I haven't really researched anything recently...

The only objective news media outlet I can find tends to be CNN here in the US. Where I live though, I get CBC (Canadian broadcasting channel) and their news is surprisingly unbiased. The way CBC presents the news in an unbiased manner on television intrigues me, especially given the biased news stations here in the US (I'm looking at you MSNBC and Fox!)

Honestly, I get the news without even looking for it on my own. If something piques my interest, I'll read more about it, but there aren't any news sites I read daily.

That being said, I do love reading the think pieces on Vox.

My mom

"Hey, Scotty, what do you think about that thing that happened?"

"Uh, yeah, it's cool that it happened. Yeah."

". . .they massacred innocent people."

"What?"

"You have no idea what happened, do you?"

"No."
