My 2 favorite MST3K episodes, Mitchell and Eegah, are both Joel episodes

It's worth keeping in mind that Mike Nelson was the head writer of the show for almost its entire run; only the first two seasons (including "season 0") & last two seasons (Netflix) didn't involve him. Mike was hired by Joel to write & chosen by Joel to succeed him as host. Don't compare them; it ain't healthy.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"
