There's an incredible mom-and-pop game store in northern Nashville. They've got amazing stock, including a ton of Famicom and Super Famicom cartridges. I bought a WaveBird from them a few weeks ago, actually.

wavebirds are rad, mine stopped working a long time ago

i really wish there were more 3rd parties making high-quality controllers for gamecube like there are for other older consoles. nobody's out there making new wavebirds or hori digital pads even though i would totally buy either of those

you'd think the GC controller still being the standard for Smash would lead to more of that but alas

Could a new Punch-Out game work in today's environment, or would it be called "problematic"?
You're kinda inconsistent. On one hand you're concerned about snowflakes getting triggered about Punch-Out, but on the other if someone calls out something like Star Trek for pandering to those same snowflakes you defend it. Should the politically correct be who media cares about or not?

I don't even like Punch-Out but it's obvious it won't be accepted today, which is too bad. Lighthearted stereotypes in games is actually harmful bigotry, of course. Street Fighter has basically dropped such designs for new characters as of SFV, so I don't see Nintendo continuing it either.

I think the main reason we'll never see another Punch-Out is that I don't think they'd want to re-visit the IP unless they can put a pretty fresh twist on it. They brought it back for Wii because it made a lot of sense for them to do a full-on boxing game with motion controls. I dunno if there's any game mechanics they could really add to the games of the past, but who knows. I'd like to see another one of those games. That Wii one was fun.

As for the characters, if they're concerned about stereotyping I think they could probably manage to create cartoon boxers that aren't stereotypes. It's not like the franchise is rooted in much reality so just because they decided not to do stereotypes of races or nationalities that they'd have no other options.

Sure, they could go with other options but they shouldn't need to, that's all.

I heard people say that, but even though I haven't played ARMS it doesn't seem similar at all beyond punching. Punch-Out is a some kind of difficult Simon Says/puzzle game wrapped in a boxing motif. ARMS seems to be a fighting game, basically.

I think there's only so much you can do with an IP like Punch-Out.

One of the local mom-and-pop game stores in my area actually closed recently. Their selection was never that great and the back half of the store was a smelly vape shop. Still, sucks to see them go.

I have no strong opinions on Punch-Out. I wish Nintendo would make a new Pilotwings though.

With their casual slant it surprises me they haven't done much with Pilotwings. I kind of understand the lack of stuff like Golden Sun, but ignoring Pilotwings and F-Zero is baffling.

What did you think of Miiverse? I think it was an interesting idea that Nintendo didn't do enough with.

I'd agree with that. Better integration with games and a bigger presence would've helped, especially if they weren't so restrictive with its use and streamlined its design. I liked it but hardly used it.

Never owned a Wii U, but Miiverse looks like it was a spiritual successor to Pictochat.
