Actually, I'm looked into it a little and it's pretty likely this isn't nintendo at all.
Apparently there's been a troll that's dedicated their life lately to filling false copyright claims against fan games and mods. Seems to particularly target nintendo properties. This is probably their work, which would explain why only the download links are down but not the actual site.

Oh, in that case, I'll just share my upload, since that Dropbox link seems to be getting too much traffic.

Yeah, I've read a bit about the issues with takedowns and the like. We'll have to wait for word from MDB, they've said they would contact the firm to see if it is legitimate.

Thank you so much RU! I have been watching this project for some time and had a really busy weekend so I missed the release and was starting to think I would not be able to download it. You guys pulled through!

Those like myself are still seeding the torrent, even if the direct uploads go down.

The real question though. Is this actually a remake of Metroid 2 or a sequel? DO THE ELEVATORS LINE UP?

It's actually a prequel to Zero Mission which was a prequel to Metroid. Obviously it takes place in a divergent hallucination while Samus is in cryosleep on her way to Zebes.

Really enjoying this. Got stuck for a while, but it was my own fault. (Didn't realize a Metroid room also had an exit door, then wandered in circles for a while). I have Power Bombs now, and I think I'm getting toward the bottom of the map. 18 or so Metroids left.
Mostly, I want to know how faithful this is to Metroid 2. Was the M2 map really this extensive? Were the speed booster and spider ball and power bombs introduced in M2? Is stuff generally in the same place? (Note, I haven't done a whole lot of reading on this project. I want to finish it before I go digging around for stuff.)

Metroid 2 introduced the Spider Ball, Spring Ball, Space Jump, Spazer Beam and Plasma Beam. Super introduced the Charge Beam, Speed Booster, X-Ray Scope, Reserve Tanks, Good Gameplay, Grapple Beam, Gravity Suit and Super Missiles. Power Bombs were invented by Lou Thesz.
AM2R does move one major power-up far away from where it was in the original game.
